The American culture puts a lot of pressure on people to look and act a certain way.

Research suggests that children as young as 3 years old begin to be affected by messages they receive from adults, peers, the media and even religion about how they should look and act.

As children, we picked up messages from other people just by seeing their body language when they looked at themselves in the mirror. We overheard conversations between people and observed how people treat each other. We internalized messages we received from our parents, caretakers, siblings or friends that then influenced how we feel about ourselves.

These messages begin to affect our self-esteem at a very young age. Self-esteem is how we see ourselves and feel about ourselves—our sense of self-worth.

Being high in self-esteem makes us feel valued and boosts our belief in ourselves and in our abilities. An article in Positive Psychology in 2021 says that a high-self-esteem contributes to feeling more confident and capable. The person is proud of who they are, what they achieve, are comfortable asking for help and standing up for themselves.

On the other hand, low self-esteem is related to antisocial behavior, substance abuse, and even, catastrophically, suicide cases.

Body image plays a big part in a person’s self-esteem. The messages we as children absorbed from our environment influenced how we formed our beliefs. We developed beliefs that we have to look perfect or be perfect in order to be loved and accepted.

The Atlantic published an article in 2018 titled “How Puberty Kills Girls’ Confidence.” The authors, Claire Shipman, Katty Kay, and Jill Ellyn Riley did extensive research and polling of tween and teen girls. They found a remarkable drop in confidence after the age of 12. Too often, their low confidence stayed with them throughout adulthood.

Society’s obsession with demeaning women’s value damages the lives of women in the U.S. and throughout the world. It leads to eating disorders, depression, self-doubt, and a poor sense of self-worth.

Boys begin to feel insecure at a young age if they don’t have enough muscles or six-pack abs or aren’t tall enough. One research study found that underweight boys are more likely to suffer from depression than are overweight girls.

For both boys and girls, there are societal norms for what kind of clothes are “more popular” than others. How some types of hair styles are more attractive than others. How some body figures and shapes automatically give a man and woman more power and influence than others have.

Beyond that, we often feel “invisible” and not heard. Or learned as children that what we had to say didn’t really matter. Or that we shouldn’t express our disappointment in someone or our anger or say anything “not nice.”

We start absorbing (and believing!) those norms at a very young age. And we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to live up to standards someone else has set. We don’t realize it, but we give our power away to that person when we do that.

Here’s what you’ll learn in the Online Self-Study Class

I’m here to walk with you through a series of 8 lessons in an online self-study class. Each lesson is designed to take you deeper into your fuller identity as a soul who has incarnated into a human body in this time and place.

When you discover your identity as the unique soul you were created to be and integrate it with your mind, body, spirit and emotions, you will find wholeness.

As we take this journey together, you will connect with the God-essence that resides within you. You’ll learn how to expand that spark of the Divine into your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, creative energy, and physical body.

You’ll discover how to tap into your soul’s whispers. Discerning what your soul has to tell you is usually a “felt sense.” It’s often like intuition. You can learn to interpret that sense. I’ll help you.

Each lesson includes these 5 topics:

1. Discovery Exercise

This is a self-reflection tool to help you become more consciously aware of how the lesson applies to you and your life.

2. Become a Compassionate Observer

This tool facilitates the process within you of recognizing your current thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and needs when you get triggered. Learn how you’ve tried to get your needs met. What responses, defenses, or behaviors have you chosen in order to feel loved, accepted or safe?

3. Spiritual Practices

Use this variety of tools to empower you to change your responses from old self-sabotaging patterns. Learn how to make new choices that honor yourself and your relationship with your body and soul.

4. Mind, Body, Spirit Connection

Learn how to tap into an inner resource that will strengthen you. This section helps you align your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being with the truth of who you’re created to be. Each lesson focuses on how to more efficiently open the creative energies that flow through your human energy system. As you do, that energy can more effectively nourish every organ and cell in specific parts of your body.

5. Healing Prayers

These prayers have healing energy imbued within them. They’re provided as a tool to add to your spiritual practice. They will help shift your thinking and provide you with comfort.

Here are the 8 steps:

1. Discover messages you’ve personally absorbed about yourself and your body

The first step is to gain a deeper understanding of why you feel discontentment towards yourself or your body. Discover the messages you’ve bought into. Learn why you might not feel safe being in your body and how you try to escape. Examine what the needs are that you’re trying to meet when you do this. Consider how you may be avoiding the feelings they trigger in you.

Learn spiritual practices that empower you to:

● Feel safe being in your body.

● Ground and center you to be in the present moment when you feel like escaping your body or your life.

● Listen to the messages you’re receiving and how to interpret them.

● Restore the energy that has caused you to feel drained and fragmented.

“Bio-Spiritual Focusing” is an example of the kinds of spiritual practices you’ll learn. This is an especially powerful exercise to connect your body and soul. You get started by quieting yourself. Let go of all the distracting thoughts in your mind. Breathe.

Then scan your body, especially your torso. Ask, “what in my body most needs my loving attention right now?” Wait for the felt sense of what is ready for your attention.

If your sense is that you can be with that “felt sense”, then the next step is to simply be with it in a caring way. Don’t analyze it. Don’t try to fix it. Certainly don’t judge it. Just be with it lovingly.

If the feeling begins to reveal itself, speak the words that come to you. They might not make sense. Again, don’t analyze it. This is a search to put words to the felt sense. At some point, you might feel a shift in that feeling. This won’t be a logical “answer” to tell you what to do. Rather it is a change in how you perceive the issue. It can change how you live with it.

Then you close by asking the felt sense if there is anything more it wants to reveal today. If yes, listen again. If no, then you have done what you can for this time. Be gracious and gentle with the sense. Close with gratitude for the time.

2. Let go of self-judgment and develop self-compassion

You are able to love and accept yourself right now, just the way you are! Discover how to recognize when you’re being judgmental towards yourself and where you store these judgmental feelings in your body.

Learn spiritual practices that empower you to:

● Listen to the story your body wants to tell you.

● Love and accept yourself right where you are without changing anything.

● Examine the beliefs you’ve formed about using your own personal power and how it’s affected your self-worth.

3. Become conscious of your emotions, beliefs, and defenses

In this lesson you will develop your understanding of yourself on an intimate level. How did you form beliefs based on the messages you received? What emotions do those beliefs trigger within you? How have you chosen to not feel these feelings? Discover how you formed defenses at a young age in order to be loved and accepted, or to protect yourself, or to feel safe.

Learn spiritual practices that empower you to:

● Create a healthy boundary for yourself that is solid from the inside out. You’ll claim your right to be here.

● Examine your family dynamics, have compassion for yourself in how you responded, and then make a conscious choice that honors and respects yourself.

● Learn how to see your innate goodness and balance giving and receiving.

4. Listen to the wisdom of your physical body

Now it’s time to change your relationship with yourself and your body. You can let go of living in a mindset where you fight or ignore what your body is telling you. Instead, embrace the messages from your body!

Honor and empower your body. Listen to the wisdom it holds. Discover which body parts you don’t like or which body systems aren’t functioning optimally, Then trust them to tell you what they need.

Learn spiritual practices that empower you to:

● Develop gratitude for all the ways your body serves you and how each part is a gift to you.

● Open your heart to give and receive love and forgiveness—not only to others, but just as importantly to yourself.

● Seek greater balance in your life with resting, relaxing and working.

5. Discern your authentic truth

Having completed the first four lessons, it’s time to develop your capacity to connect with your soul. Your magnificent life dwells in multiple dimensions. The 3rd dimension is the physical dimension—it’s the dimension of your physical body and where you express your choices and witness the consequences of your choices. The 4th dimension is where your ego, thoughts, emotions and free will reside. The 5th dimension is a spiritual dimension in which you connect with your soul. It’s where you can find out more about who you were created to be and how to make choices that honor that.

You can learn to speak your truth from that spiritual realm. Instead of reacting to situations without thinking, you can learn to consciously choose your reactions to your life events, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. Don’t settle for using your body in unhealthy ways to speak for you. Discover the power of the words you speak and how your body’s intelligence knows when truth is or is not honored and spoken.

Learn spiritual practices that empower you to:

● Discern how to live in integrity with your authentic self and then formulate new life-giving beliefs.

● Take responsibility for what you think and feel and speak your truth.

● Speak your truth by sharing your thoughts, feelings and needs with another person in a way that they can hear you without being defensive.

● Hear truth by listening to another in a way that is affirming and gives respectful feedback.

● Replace the old self-sabotaging thoughts, beliefs and feelings with appropriate, positive ones that nourish you and breathe life into you.

6. Find your inner voice and live your truth

Now that you are developing the ability to interpret the “felt sense” of your soul’s wisdom, it’s time to act on it. Imagine being able to put into action what your heart and soul desire. Discover how to tell the difference between your inner voice and the voices bombarding you from society.

● Find your own voice in order to access your soul’s profound wisdom and truth.

● Discern your truth through multiple methods of listening to your body and soul.

7. Awaken to your spiritual self

It is your faith that will make you well. Be aware! Developing your faith is an active process! As the saying goes, “It ain’t for sissies!”

It is during this process that transformation takes place but it takes courage to embark on the journey. There will be a transformation in your faith of what is possible and you are empowered to decide whether it‘s worth it to take the risk to seek a better life.

Faith is a very active process between us and Spirit working in and through us throughout our lives. It is not just one point in time. It is an ongoing process.

Consider this insight from Martin Luther, a faithful but radical mystic who got booted out of the church of his day. The excerpt is taken from his An Introduction to St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans :

Faith is God’s work in us that changes us and gives new birth from God. It changes our hearts, our spirits, our thoughts and all our powers. It brings the Holy Spirit with it. Yes, it is a living, creative, active and powerful thing. . . Faith is a living, bold trust in God’s grace, so certain of God’s favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it.

Such confidence and knowledge of God’s grace makes you happy, joyful and bold in your relationship to God and all creatures. The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith. Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things, love and praise the God who has shown you such grace.

FAITH IS NOT A PASSIVE PROCESS!

There is a lot of movement by Spirit working within us as well as our ability to respond that develops this faith and trust.

It is this ongoing process of faith, trust, persistence, determination and endurance that activates and sustains the healing process. It is often the state of pain and suffering that gives us the persistence and determination and endurance to keep seeking it – to relieve the pain – whether that is emotional, mental, spiritual or physical.
I trust that the Spirit will work within you to develop your faith and trust and provide you with perseverance, determination and endurance to seek healing.

Where does this personal power come from? In the language of classic Christian theology (for those of you who have ever connected with that faith tradition), it comes from the “kingdom of God within us.” (Luke 17:21)

This is wa-ay bigger than the more immature Christian tradition of “if you’re saved, when you die you go to heaven”!

How do we access this kingdom of God within us?

God created a way for us to access this kingdom within us. It is through our soul. The journey of our soul is recorded in the heavens—in our very own “Book of Life.”

This realm is also known as our soul’s “Akashic Record.” The word Akasa has its roots in India. Both Hindus and Buddhists have their particular understanding of Akasa. Later, followers of Jainism and the Theosophical traditions embraced the same language for their understanding of this next realm available to humans. Some describe it as a “cosmic archive” or a “cosmic hub of information”.

The Akashic Record is an energetic recording of every thought, feeling, circumstance and choice made that your soul has experienced on its journey. Each of us has a spiritual council called Akashic Record Keepers. They are responsible for maintaining the integrity of our soul’s information from the moment our soul was created to present time.

It is possible to access your soul’s Akashic Record and speak with your Akashic Record Keepers to gain clarity and understanding about your life and circumstances.

During the Individual Soul Guidance sessions, I facilitate the process of connecting you with your personal Akashic Record Keepers. They will provide you with deeper healing, enlightenment, and transformation on a soul-level as you and I:

  • Ask questions about your life and listen for the wisdom they provide that comes directly from your soul.

1. What information may be helpful for me to know in order to gain deeper insight about these issues that are keeping me stuck in old patterns?

The self-sabotaging patterns that you’re experiencing in this lifetime may actually be rooted in previous lives. They may be coming to the surface in this lifetime in order for you to gain consciousness around them and to heal them on a soul-level.

Your Akashic Record Keepers will reveal information to you they deem will be most helpful on your journey in the present moment.

2. What is the lesson my soul desires to learn from this specific experience?

Oftentimes, souls come into this lifetime with a plan to have certain experiences so that we can learn from them. If that is true in your case, this will help you advance your personal growth and development.

There may be soul contracts you’ve created with others in order to learn from them. These contracts may now be ready to be released or upgraded.

There may be ancestral or genetic patterns that have come with you into this lifetime that are contributing to your self-sabotaging patterns. You might now be ready to heal those generations past and those in the future. There may be past life vows that are ready to be released. You may be actively supporting others who are in your soul family to experience what their souls came here to learn.

3. What resources are available to me to heal and transform these issues on a deeper level or to heal my relationship with myself, my body, or others in my life?
